Proposed Principles of a Non-Partisan United States:
1. Honor the Constitution
2. Law & Order
3. Fairness
4. Strong Military
5. Free markets (with reasonable regulation to prevent monopolies and protect health)
6. Energy Independence
7. Strong borders, with rational, well-managed immigration policies
8. Top-Notch Education
9. One citizen = One Vote, and all votes are equal
10. Co-equal branches of government
11. Honor our commitments to allies/partners (as we expect them to honor theirs)
12. We are a country of laws, not men
13. Humane treatment of detainees, citizen or noncitizen
We leave a sustainable (financially, environmentally) nation to our descendants.
I think most people would agree with those principles, but the devil is in the details. For example, some people believe the constitution gives the president a lot, if not total, power. Others do not. What is a reasonable immigration policy? And what is the appropriate way to enforce it? What is fair when it comes to tax policy and social safety nets. No easy answers, hence the chaotic state we are in.
